Crusty Plain Loaf
Homemade Artisanal Sourdough
900g (Serves 8-10)


  • Defrost loaf, preferably overnight, until it is soft and spongy
  • Preheat oven to between 230-260 degrees C
  • Only when desired temperature is reached, break open freezer bag and place on baking rack in the center of oven
  • Bake for approximately 10-15 minutes until the outside of the loaf is hard, and the colour is a dark golden brown
  • Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack. Allow loaf to cool sufficiently before cutting 

Note: Defrosted loaf does not have to be baked immediately, as long as it is not removed from freezer bag. It can stay in freezer bag, on a kitchen counter for up to 2 days before baking.

Storage instructions: Store loaf in a paper bag, placed on a kitchen surface, away from direct light or heat. Do not store in plastic bag or refrigerate. Loaf can be sliced, wrapped in Glad Wrap, and placed in freezer for use later. Remove slice from freezer as required, and place directly into toaster for best results.
